HIRE BY UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENTS

Hire Charges
There are three rates which apply to vehicle hire these are:

hourly, daily, weekly

Hourly: £1.85 per hour - *9 a.m. - 12 midnight
£0.49p per mile

Daily: £40 per 15 hour day - *9 a.m. - 12 midnight
£0.28p per mile

Weekly: £200/per 7 day week
£0.28p per mile

*Any use of the vehicles outside these times will not be charged for.

The rates are subject to 17.5 VAT plus a 10% admin fee, where applicable.

DIESEL

The cost of diesel is included in the above rates. Payment for diesel will be reimbursed through the Union's Finance Office, please keep receipts.

KEYS

Arrangements to collect the vehicle keys are made nearer the date of the booking. Keys are signed out and in.

LOG SHEETS

It is important to complete a log sheet, the start/finish mileage must be recorded on the log sheet before it is handed in. An inspection of the vehicle must be completed before a journey, and a note of damage (dents/scratches) made on the log sheet.

CANCELLATION FEE

No charge will be made for cancellation of a vehicle booking. However, in the event of the vehicle not being used and no notice of cancellation given then a charge will be made equal to the length of time of the booking.

INSURANCE

The hire of the Union's vehicles does not include insurance. To arrange your insurance cover you must contact Sue Banbury in Estates and Buildings on Ext. 2769. Sue will require your Department Code No. for insurance costing. Insurance confirmation will be sent to you and the Student Support Centre Administrator.

Anyone who intends to drive a Union vehicle should check with Sue Banbury in Estates and Buildings on Ext. 2769 to ensure they are approved to drive such vehicles.

BREAKDOWN & ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE In the event of a breakdown, passengers must always be the first priority. Drivers should explain to the passengers what has happened and that the driver is going to call for assistance. If the breakdown is of a minor nature (e.g. tyre puncture), it may be possible to effect a repair and continue the journey. Remember though, never try to change a wheel with passengers on board the vehicle.
