Academic Affairs - Aaron Porter

As the Academic Affairs Officer for the University of Leicester Students' Union, I am the principal representative between the University and the Students' Union.

In my role, I lead student representation to all levels of the University, whether it is on their senior decision making bodies such as University Council or University Senate, through to smaller committees or groups such as the Assessment & Feedback working group or the Student Experience Enhancement committee. I also oversee the Education Unit which provides free and impartial advice to students about any aspect of their academic experience. As well as the Education Unit, I co-ordinate the Course Rep system. We have over 100 active Course Reps throughout the University, and the way in which they are trained and supported in their role is my responsibility. I am currently in the process of reforming the network we have in place for Course Reps, and would be happy to receive your feedback on the system we currently have.

In addition to my role at Leicester, I have also been active within the student movement nationally. I chair Unions94 which is the forum where the Student Unions from the 19 Higher Education insitutions in the 1994 Group come together to discuss issues relevant to us. I also chair the Student Loans Company Student Consultative Committee which is a forum for the SLC to receive direct feedback from students on all areas of the service they provide. In May 2007, I took up the position of Deputy Chair (Communiation) and a place on the board of NUS Services Ltd, the commercial arm of NUS.
