Union Policy

Our Union has policies on a number of issues and through these pages you can find up to date information about them. These policies were approved the Executive Committee, Union Council, General Meetings or Referendums in the past.

Any policy, once approved by one the bodies outlined above, will remain in force for three years. At the end of the three years, it will have to be formally approved again, if it is to remain in policy. This is done to ensure that we do not keep policies that become out of date through the passage of time.

Any full member of the Union can ask to keep a policy that has been in force for three years and is now up for lapsing. If you want to do so please make sure that you write to the Elections and Rules Committee stating which policy you would like the Union to keep. At the second General Meeting of the year you will need to come and make a speech in favour of keeping the policy. Assuming the students at the meeting vote agree with your view then the policy will remain in force for another 3 years.

If no one writes to the Elections and Rules Committee about wanting to keep a given policy then it will automatically lapse.

If you have any questions about any existing policy the Union has or that you wish the Union to have policy on an issue that you feel strongly about then please contact the President for further information.
