The marketization of Higher Education will lead to big winners and big losers. Rising costs will only deter the lower socio-economic classes from entering into Higher Education and the system will be not be based on academic ability but on ability to pay. The gap between the poorest, less established and the richer more established universities will widen - only exacerbating the trends of richer students going to wealthier institutions and poorer students going to less wealthy institutions.
We, the students at the University of Leicester, want the government to say no any further lifting of the cap on tuition fees and no to a market in Higher Education.
