My name is Laura Egan and I have been elected as your Welfare and International Officer of your Students’ Union.
Your Students’ Union is there to provide you with the opportunities and support services to enhance your time at University .
My office is situated on the first floor of the SU building, just above the Union shop, if you ever need some impartial advice or just want to chat feel free to pop up and see me!

Nightline
Nightline is a is a student-run helpline that operates every night during term-time 8am-8pm. It provides completely confidential emotional support on ANYTHING - it can even be used to get taxi and takeaway listings or just if you want someone to chat to. You have the choice of a female or male listener and they can call you back.

Pregnancy Testing
This service is run by students for students. Testing is available from 1pm until 2pm Monday-Friday. The testing is totally free and takes place in the Churchill room which is on level 2 of the S.U building. All volunteers are female and are fully trained.
Condoms
You can get free condoms from all bars including all S.U. bars and hall bars, just asks a member of staff and they will happily hand them over. You can also get free condoms by coming to the Sabbatical corridor on the first floor of the S.U. building (above the shop).
Chlamydia testing kits
Chlamydia testing kits can be found in bins in the entrance to the sabbatical corridor. The kits are in a little bag containing instructions so that you can go home and carryout the test in your own time.
ISA
This is a brilliant form of support for all International Students. The association provides many social activities and trips around the country throughout the year. Pro-Bono
Is a service run by Law Students for all students who would like free and imparticial legal advice. If you would like to make an appointment call 07971836754 or email: probono@le.ac.uk Or you could drop in during their opening hours: Every wednesday 5:30 - 7:30 in the Accenture Training Rooms.

The Welfare Service is situated on the Sabbatical corridor in the Students’ Union building. The service offers a wide range of support services for students. Practical advice and information is available on a range of issues. Financial advice is offered, with information on budgeting and DSS benefits. Students can apply for Hardship grants through the service, and Welfare staff can provide information on applying to charities and trusts. Students with children may be eligible for a childcare subsidy, which is claimed through the Service.
Welfare officers can provide materials on health-related issues including alcohol and drugs, meningitis, pregnancy testing, sexual health and first aid courses. A legal advice clinic is held in conjunction with the Faculty of Law.

This service offers one-to-one support to students managing mental health issues at University. The aim of the service is to assist students to lessen the impact these issues might have on their studies. Students are welcome to make contact with the service at any point in their course.
CHAPLAINCY

The Chaplaincy offers students a place to come and make themselves at home. It is open from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday during term-time. Information is available about the local churches and the world faith communities represented at the University. There is a chapel to pray in and a library to work in. Students can talk to a chaplain from one of the local churches (Anglican, Baptist, Roman Catholic, Salvation Army, United Reformed, Methodist, Society of Friends) and also to a dedicated chaplain for International Students.
