Changing Universities

Every year some students decide that, for one reason or another, they are not happy here in Leicester and want to go elsewhere

After you have made your mind up that Changing University is the correct decision for you (See Advice leaflet Are you unhappy) then you must follow the subsequent 5 steps:

Find out where you want to go and what course you want to do. The University Library has prospectuses for all universities, also consult the careers centre in College House for advice.
Once you have chosen the University you wish to attend, call that University up and ask to speak to the person in charge of admissions for the department you wish to study in. You need to ask them if there are spaces on their course and if they are willing to take you. Also ask them when the course starts and will you have to wait a year.
If you are offered a place on a course at another University, you then need to fill in a withdrawal form available from the Registry or by clicking on www.le.ac.uk/academic/registry/studentforms.html
You will also have to speak to your department, as they must approve this.
Once everything has been approved i.e. on your new course and your withdrawal from the University of Leciester has been completed make sure you inform your LEA and the Student Loans Company. Please remember that a decision to change your course may affect your funding. This is particuarly important bearing in mind the new system of funding will be introduced for the 2006-07 academic year. Therefore it is important to consult with your LEA or the Education Unit for more informations.
