Every year some students decide that for one reason or another they are not on the right course
You may find it helpful to read the leaflet If you are Unhappy before taking the decision to change your course
So how do you go about changing to another course??
All requests for a change of degree programme by students with a current registration must be carried out by means of a Request for Change of Degree Programme form available from the Registry or online by clicking on the link below:
Things to bear in mind when wanting to change your course
You can change your course within the first three weeks of the academic year, after that you will have to wait until the end of the academic year to change courses (unless it's a similar course with no changes in the modules you are taking).
You can change to another course if there is a place available on that course.
The timing of the decision to change course also may affect your funding. This is partiucarly important since there are significant changes to Higher Education Funding from 2006 onwards. For the current situation please consult the Education Unit for more information.
The 5 Steps to changing your course
Firstly you must obtain the consent and signature of your Head of Department.
Then you must obtain the consent and signature of a representative in all the departments of modules you are currently studying and propose to study.
Students must then complete the required details of all modules to be taken in the proposed degree programme (see Undergraduate Regulations and Module Handbook).
If the proposed change of degree is to a programme in another faculty, students must also obtain the consent and signature of the Dean(s) or Sub-Dean(s) of the Faculty/Faculties concerned.
This form must then be taken IMMEDIATELY to the Registry, Fielding Johnson Building.
Any student who is thinking of leaving or changing their course should also consult their personal tutor and inform their LEA and the Students Loan Company. If you need any further advice do not hesitate to contact us at the Students' Union Education Unit or the other sources of advice that include the Registry, Welfare & Careers.
