Failed an Exam

For whatever reason if you have failed your exams, it is important that you speak to your department ASAP! Meet with your Personal Tutor or the Head of Department to discuss the situation. Assuming that you have not been given a letter of neglect of studies letter or best efforts letter you will be allowed a chance to resit any exam failed on one further occasion.

For details of when you will take the resits and more information regarding what to do if you were suffering from problems that affected your performance during the examinations click on the links below: -

If you fail the resit then the reasons for it and all other results will be considered by your department's next examination board. They may chose to:
  • Terminate your course.
  • Offer you a year without residence on condition that you sit or re-sit/sit the exam(s) in question
  • Offer you another re-sit/sit of the examination (if you pass you will get only 40%) but allow you to move on to the next academic year
Note if the board recommends at this stage that your course should be terminated that you will have a right to appeal the decision. If you find yourself in this position then we would strongly recommend that you contact us for advice on how to proceed.
