Who Should be on the SSC?
- Elected Course Representatives from each year of each main degree course - both undergraduate and postgraduate where appropriate
- At least two members of staff (one junior and one senior) selected by their department (students should be in the majority).
- For some very small degree programmes, all students on the degree course may be invited to attend the meetings.
As a general guide, where numbers of students following a particular degree programme are less than 25 in number, there should be one Course Representative per degree per year. Where the number of students exceeds 25 there should be two student representatives.
Equal Opportunities issues should be borne in mind when the constitution of SSCs is considered, in order to ensure that the diversity of the student population is properly reflected in the membership.
How often should the SSC meet?
Undergraduate SSCs are required to meet at least three times in every academic year. Postgraduate SSCs should normally meet termly. Additional meetings can be convened by representatives should the need arise. The first meeting should take place no later than Week Six of the Autumn Term, and at least one meeting should be held in each term.
